Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, Endorses Mike Prendergast, Republican Nominee for FL D-11 E-mail

Tampa, FL – Newt Gingrich, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1995-1999, endorsed Mike Prendergast for Florida’s 11th congressional district. The announcement marked the first major endorsement for Prendergast since accepting the Republican nomination less than a week ago. “I am honored by the endorsements I have received thus far but this one is exceptional,” Prendergast said. “I will model Speaker Gingrich’s outspoken defense of the people and serve selflessly to ensure their needs are met.”

Jobless Claims Rise while Congress Votes to Cut Benefits to Most Vulnerable E-mail

Tampa, FL – The Senate-approved teacher and Medicaid bill prompted Rep. Nancy Pelosi to call Congress back for a special session to pass the legislation to the President. Mike Prendergast, front runner for the Republican nomination in Florida’s Congressional District 11, disapproved of the bill not because of where the money is going but rather because of where the funding is coming from. If the bill passes, food stamp recipient benefits appropriated to the program by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act will be slashed by nearly $12 billion.

Newsome Athletes Honored for Academic Achievement E-mail

Four Newsome athletes achieved all-county academic success for the 2010 school year, led by first team selection Patrick Hacker. In addition to being named to the state all-star soccer team, Hacker found the time to achieve a 6.06 GPA and coach the Randall Middle School soccer team. Hacker's next stop will be the University of Florida, where he plans to major in engineering.
